Make a little extra money as a mystery shopper

If looking to make a little extra money, like so many people are, mystery shopping is an option you might want to consider. Mystery shoppers go into businesses and evaluate the services that businesses provide. Mystery shoppers, also called secret shoppers, play a valuable role for businesses because we can help them to find out what problems there are- if there are any.

The thing about mystery shoppers is that there is an element of mystery. We go into a business and perform a discreet evaluation. We don’t let everyone know that we are the mystery shopper. Most mystery shops are done “undercover”. Sometimes employees know that there is a mystery shopper coming but they don’t know when, and they don’t know who the mystery shopper is.
Many different businesses use mystery shoppers. Grocery stores, banks, hotels, car dealerships, and many other types of businesses use mystery shoppers. I have even heard about (but have not been fortunate enough to try) cruise ship mystery shops. I think that if you are willing to do a little research and apply to a variety of companies, you can find just about any type of mystery shop. One thing I like about mystery shopping is that you get to be an actress. You make your observation without letting anyone know who you are. Some mystery shops require you to tell that you are the mystery shopper but that is not until the end of the shop, after you have already done your observation.
But, it is an important job too. Why? Well, all business have a plan for the way they want their customers treated. They want repeat customers and repeat business and the way to ensure that they get that is to train their employees on what is expected. Most of us have had a bad experience with a new business. Do you go back and give the business a second chance? Some will and some won’t.
Think about it. If you go to a restaurant and the service is bad and the food is terrible, that might be the only chance that you give the restaurant. A mystery shopper who would experience this would be able to give feedback so the business can improve.
Mystery shopping can be a fun, interesting job which is really good for someone who likes to mix things up. It also helps if you are the type who can stay organized. And in my experience you can make from $100 to as much as $600 a week. This is just the amount of money that I personally have made. Some people might make more than that. How much you make depends on how much time you put into it, and how many opportunities are available in your area. If you live in an area where there are a lot of mystery shoppers, you will have to travel farther to find shops.
The best way to see if mystery shopping is something you would like is to just jump in there. Give it a try! It might be the right “job” for you.
