Frugal Wedding Ideas

With yesterday's very beautiful and amazing Royal Wedding being so highly talked about I decided to post a few ideas to holding your own frugal wedding, I mean realistically speaking we are not all part of the Royal Family (as much as we wished we were).

One of the happiest moments in a person’s life is when they get married. You have decided to pledge your love to another and you want family and friends to celebrate with you. But, for a truly happy occasion, you don’t have to break the bank.

Weddings can be expensive. From the dress to the invitations to the decorations to the venue, it can cost a pretty penny. If you are trying to start a new life together, you may want those pretty pennies to go to another venture like a new home after the wedding.

The title may make you think of tacky decorations, but that is not what frugal means. Frugal simply means that you don’t have to spend full price for what you want on your wedding day. You can make it beautiful and look like a million bucks even if you didn’t spend even a third of that much.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

* Invitations – You have decided to tie the knot. Your invitations can attest to this but why pay a fortune to have them printed for you?

Use a wedding invitation program from Microsoft Word templates or a card program. Visit a stationery store or a party supply store to get your paper in the colors of your choice. You can use one of those wedding invitation books to decide on the style of your invitation and then create your own. Use stencils to add design and tissue paper to separate invitations from RSVP cards.

* Decorations – This is one of the biggest expenses. Decide on how you want to decorate your wedding venue and reception hall first. Then look for ways to save on those decorations.

When it comes to table decorations, spend money on a keepsake for the guests but leave other items as generic as possible. For example, use artificial flowers in wedding colors in decorative vases on each table. On the head tables opt for fresh seasonal flowers. If carnations are in season, you can have them painted to match your wedding colors. Or even better, use colored water in clear vases and white flowers. They will soak up the color through their stems.

* Dress – You will be the most beautiful person in the room. All eyes will be on you but only for an evening. Save money and still get the perfect wedding gown by shopping at wedding shows, discount boutiques and wedding dress outlets. Some stores may give you a deal on accessories when you purchase your dress from them.

* Finger foods or a meal? – If your wedding is early enough in the evening, finger foods or heavy hors d’oeuvres are appropriate. For a full meal, look into family caterers or a family member who loves to cook and can do the job for you as a wedding gift.

Creating a wedding using frugal ideas can save you some money, but not at the cost of a beautiful day for you and your loved one.
